Hello!

I have two ceiling lights that are installed in series (single switch controls both) and I replaced one of them with a ceiling fan/light combo that has a remote control.

I'm wondering if you can buy an aftermarket receiver to add on/off control of the second ceiling light with the current remote control? That way I could leave the wall switch on all the time, but control both lights with the Light On/Off function of the remote control.

Thoughts or suggestions? Ripping out the ceiling to split the lights to two switches isn't an option :)

You can buy an after market transmiter and receiver that will fit in the canopy of the fan that has no current remote. Wikihow recommends
"Remove each blade by removing the screws securing them in place. Set them aside for later.
Remove the canopy by removing the screws securing it in place. Let it drop.
Disconnect the wires powering the fan. Remove the fan and set it aside.
Place the remote control receiver into the canopy. Connect the wires and secure them with wire nuts.
Re-connect the fan wires and secure them with wire nuts.
Slide the canopy up to the ceiling. Secure it with the old screws.
Secure each blade to the fan with the old screws.
Pull the fan's fan speed chain so that it is on high speed.
Insert batteries into the remote control.
Turn your fan on with your new remote control."

First of all the lights aren't in series, they're in parallel.

Secondly, you can buy a remote control/receiver kit designed for ceiling fans, JUST hook up the light portion, and set it to the same frequency as the fan, then use the same remote for both.
