I have a black max generator with a yamaha motor. I had my trailer hooked up to it with ac on, everything quit. Generator was still running, checked breakers on gen. still nothing. I was told probably ave module. Have replaced, still nothing. Any suggestions?? Would really appreciate any ones help.

Hi,
I made several searches for the generator; cmae up with Honda and Robin/Subaru engines. It seems to be a Chinese produst as one time I got four different go-between firms that would negotiate for purchases on my behalf.
I will hazard a guess that the bridge rectifier that supplies the field coil has failed and the result is no field no power generation.

I've checked the brushes, they look OK. I don't know what a bridge rectifier is. I've check the parts list and do not see it. Any other suggestions? Could it be the rotor?

Hi,
Well, if it has brushes, it does not have a rectifier; which means it is not an expensive unit. Brushes are built into the cost consideration as well as the physical unit. Your next step is to check resistance in the rotor and field coils. This is done on the coils themselves to detect an open circuit and to ground to detect a shorted circuit.
You have a manual which is more than I can say. Searches in my usual places have yielded nothing.

Quick generator theory (hopefully it applies)

There is residual magnatism in one of the coils.

A coil get's applied to rectifier in the control module to generate a little bit of DC.

Another coil is modulated by that DC and this causes regulation, so now the generator has a weak field and a variable field. This one usually has the brushes. This coil generally has the residual magnitism. If it has none, then no electricity.

Another winding is your AC take off.

Yet another can be a winding used for DC after it's bridge rectified.

(It's probably not quite right in theory, but it's close)
