    Pint over old paint
We want to change the color of the walls in a mobile home that the previous renters had painted. Apparently they did not prime the walls first. Can we prime over the walls and then paint with success.

Yes you can as long as underlying surface is stable, use "Killz" primer made just for this type of job. Your local hardware guy will know exactly what you need.

    Good luck :)

If you use the same type of paint as the renter, latex or oil. There is little need of primer. I use Bullseye 1-2-3 if there are stains or a monsterous color change but adhesion should be OK without primer inless there is staining or grease/oil.

Latex over oil creates a big problem if the surface is not prepared properly, Primer should really only be required if the new color is drastically different. The surfaces should be clean and not peeling.

Use TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) to clean the surface. Light sanding can make the paint adhere better. Mix bleach with the TSP if any mold is present. Mix powder per directions.

We had to paint over the walls in our mobile home recently. I got real tired of the "kotex" flower patterns!

What we did was lightly sand the walls to "rough up" the surface" and then vacuumed them off. Then we did 1 coat of Kilz It, and then 2 coates of main color wanted.

The light sanding (we used a mouse sander) really gave us a good surface!
