    Concrete Slab
    I am having a concrete slab poured under my raised house. What is better, 4" concrete with fiber in it without rebar or 4" concrete with rebar? The house is on the Texas gulf coast.

    The salesmen say the fiber in Crete ( which I hate pouring and troweling) Is as good as rebar on flat ground. I disagree but it's a big step up from nothing. The difference ARE
    1. Rebar is one dimensional reinforcement
    2. Fiber is all dimensional

    There are limits to fiber is suspension simply because compression is lost not sitting on the ground. There is where the Rebar comes in to replace the compression factor missing. Example: cantilever concrete decks on High rises.

    I'm an old Crete and I prefer rebar. Now here there kicker on that. TOO many creters don't use "tables" to set the rebar IN the Crete. Can't tell you how many 1,000 of tons of concrete I"ve ripped out and the wire or rebar was all but under the Crete.

    Heres the response you will get there from a Crete contractor. " Oh we use brick to lift the rebar and pull them out as we place. That can work ONLY if you don't step on the rebar as you keep pouring and sink the rebar. "Tables" is the only way to guarantee that the bar is at the right depth.
