    Shoplifting Conviction
In 2003 I applied and was offered a job w/ a major bank. I lied on the app about a shoplifting misdemeanor from 2000 but before signing the employment forms I told them the truth. I didn't want to start working and take the chance of them finding out later. After I came clean they told me the could not hire me. In 2005 I had this record expunged and have had no problems finding employment. My question is how long do employers keep this information? Should I even try to apply at this bank ever again? Thanks

Document retention is a sensitive subject for large corporations.

Most big companies will keep HR and payroll records for at least 7 years.

Under certain legal conditions, they may retain records even longer.

You're going to be in their systems for several years. They may not be able to retain information about your legal problem, but they can retain a note that you lied during your application.

Give it a couple of years... and then see what they have to say.
