    My dog is being strange.
Hello, I have a male dog he is not neutered (he just reached six months) we are watching my brother female dog, and my dog since has been obbsessed with her! He has stopped eating, won't leave her side, and cries when he is not with her. It is really not good because we do not want her pregnant so we keep them separated.. What can I do, I'm really worry he has stopped eating all together!!

He want to mate her. Be sure to keep them separated, as he will do anything to get to her.

Yep, it's time to get him neutered, he is at a good age now to do it before he develops behavoiral problems.

Unaltered adults can be aggressive towards other males, they have territorial issues and urinate on everything and will obssess over females in heat.

It takes awhile to make the appointment, but I'm not sure on which vet to go to because, the one that he goes to for his shots and what not, everyone who goes there for surgeury's, neutering.. and what not, the dogs get infections, and are allergic to the pills they give. I've already found out about six, so I'm not going to rush it, I have to find somewhere safe first :)

It's good to shop around with vets.

It took me months to find one I was comfortable with spaying my rabbit.

My usual vet in fantastic with dogs but he admitted that he had not done a lot of work with rabbits and wasn't 100% comfortable with the surgery.

If you happen to be near a dog show that is going on I would pay a visit and ask them what vets the show people go to.
Calling the ANKC and asking for local breeders numbers or even a local shelter is a good way to get recommendations for vets.

There is only about 4 where I live, and 2 of the more popular ones have been having problems, there is one I might try calling, but, it is a lot more expensive, (im assuming because its new?)

Price doesn't always make a good vet unfortunately.
There is one here that is rather expensive, they are good vets don't get me wrong but they aren't the best, what impressed me was their manner with both the clients and the animals though.
I had to have a rabbit put to sleep a few years ago (with myxomatosis) and they were really comforting and supportive.
They even charged me the usual fee even though it was a holiday.

My usual vet is a lot cheaper but he is the best vet for dogs in the state.

Give that new vet a call and just ask a few questions.
Have they had many complications with neutering?
How many neuterings has that particular vet done before?
How long has the vet been practicing?

Okay, well my vet is amazing with the dogs, other than the surgery's.

I would take a look at other vets in your area then... I do agree there.. it is much safer knowing before taking your dog in to be fixed because you wouldn't want something bad to happen or complications to arise.. talk to people you know who have gotten their dogs fixed.. did they have problems with their dog recovering which vets did they use, talk to people in dog shows, but more importantly talk to each of the vet clinics and the vets themselves... be sure to write a list of questions you would like to ask before ever brining your dog in . I searched for months for a vet, my husbands mother said her vet was awesome, almost took my dog in to that vet as his perminant vet and decided instead to go in myself without my dog and with her and her dog when she took her in for a checkup... To this day I am SOOO glad I never brought my dog in there because the way they treated my husbands mother and their dog was appaling... they basically told her she didn't know how to take care of her dog (when she takes wicked good care of her dog) and that she was stupid *Yes they had the nerve to say it to her face* and that the skin problem her dog had was brand new and it was never there before (when it was there all her life) and they had been seeing the dog since it was a pup and its 14 years old now... You could ask him questions about the dog and the vets wouldn't have a clue even with their documents right in front of them from all the times the dog had been to the vet

Yes, well all the people I know, that take there dog to vets in the area, take them to my vet, and many of them have had allergic reaction to the pills, or the stitches, or they get extremely infected. My dog was in puppy class not that long ago, and all the dogs were not able to show up because they had comlications, I talked to them about the vet, the clinic, and what not, they said if they could they would have never gotten there dog spayed. *The one even had to be put down because of infection*

I would look into low cost spay/neuter clinics. If not a clinic then check with local rescues, etc, many often give vouchers which reduce the price, they can also recommend a vet.
I have to say that if all the dogs who have surgery at your vets are having major complications you should not be going to that vet at all! Though he/she may be "good" with dogs they are obviously not very competent. I'm sorry and I don't mean to be rude or anything, but I'm "good" with dogs but it doesn't mean I could be a vet.. you know?
What's the situation with your brothers dog? Why isn't she spayed? I'm of the opinion that all dogs and cats should be altered, even when people are careful accidents happen and there are soooo many animals in shelters and euthanized everyday. Again, not trying to preach, just think about it!

My brothers dog is used for breeding (not my choice so don't tell me its wrong blah blah) She is a purebred with amazing bloodlines. He is a mixed breed so the puppies would be mixed, and there is enough of those around.
