If you are a mental health worker.
You have been seeing a client who was in the Iraq war that began in 2003. This soldier is exhibiting symptoms of PTSD. What type of therapy would you use with this soldier and why? What similarities and what differences would you expect to see between veterans of Vietnam and soldiers fighting in Iraq? Would the therapies you employed with the Iraq veteran be the same for the Vietnam veteran?

To find a therapist who knows how to deal with PTSD, check with Tri-Care or Military One Source for someone in your area. Or go to or call the nearest VA.
PTSD from Iraq and Viet Nam is treated the same way. Cognitive-Behavioral therapies are used. They are problem oriented and solution focused; EFT is helpful ( see:emofree.com).
Some vets do well in 1:1 therapy. Others do better in grps.
Others need to go on to intensive programs for 2-3 weeks with grp.
    Follow up.
Many VA's have special programs for PTSD. Also check into VA out-patient counseling centers. The VA has a 24 Hr.suicide prevention #
That can give you local resources at 1-800-273-TALK(8255).
Or, call the nearest military base and ask to speak with the adult
MFLC(military family life consultant). Usually they are in ACS or the Readiness Center.
Find some help. PTSD responds well to the right therapies. Without therapy,it can be disabling and can get worse. More than 25% of the vets from Iraq have serious PTSD.
    Good Luck
