    Need to update TV references in my book
    I'm writing a book, but have just realised that some of my references are a bit dated.

    So can anyone suggest a programme that would replace Baywatch, something with beautiful people not wearing too many clothes?

    Or Friends, something funny that gets repeated a lot and mostly takes place indoors?

    Hey there.

    Up-to-dateTV allusions are so much trickier these days, aren't they? With so many gazillions of channels, there are few things "everybody" watches, you know?

    Something you may want to think about is that 80's and 90's show/movie references are pretty "in" right now with the media--which sounds funny even to me. Kind of that whole "so unpopular it's popular" mentality. So if you went with something even more "outdated" it might actually be considered "current." Ah, how these things come back around!

    Back to your original question, though... I can't think of anything really popular with the scantily clad characters of the Baywatch era. Hmm... actually, the first thing that came to mind was Dr. Cuddy from House. Yeesh.. . But I'm relatively certain that's not exactly in the same vein as what you were going for. In the same vein? Oi. There's a free doctor pun for you.

    But as far as funny sitcoms go, The Office is still pretty big. It's the first one that came to my mind.

    Anyway, hope I was helpful, and good luck on your book!

    Thanks. In that case, I might stick with Baywatch and Friends. If nothing else, they get repeated so much everyone has seen them. I do watch House, but I've never seen Cuddy in anything except pencil skirts.

    I'm always amazed by the things my children have never seen, because they are glued to channels that feature mermaids and annoying twins.

    ::Uproarious laughter:: Amen to that!

    Yeah, everybody knows Baywatch and Friends. Heck, I've never even seen Baywatch, and I know it. And I've seen maybe two episodes of Friends, yet I can name all the characters and actors, which shouldn't be surprising. Heh. I'd say you're safe going with the iconic on this one. :D
