    Stairbuilding and Tangent Handrailing
Does anyone know where I can learn complex stairbuilding and how to install hanrailing for straight and circular stairs?

Building stairs are not as hard are you think once you learn to use the tongue and Blade of the framing square. What messes many people up is the last riser and determining weather it will be flush to the finish floor in layout of how many risers the stringer will be and to leave enough extra board length of the top and bottom to make a return/Plumb cut to mate with the lower finish floor and same goes with the top.

It's a bit hard to find but they make "stops" that attach to the square and once you set theses at the desired tread and riser layout, you only have to lay yhe square at on point on the stringer and the stop sets the next angle.

The basics on steps is the odd step goes at the bottom. I find some building codes for stairs not updated to the fact that peoples feet are getting bigger by the year. Some stair codes are based on a much smaller tread width in relationship to average shoe size 30+ years ago

Not 100% sure what you are asking. There are tons of sites on how to build basic steps/stringers. The big gray areas are setting the angle of the handrail correctly. As far as building curved railings a gig and steam is one of the ways to soften the milled railing to bend it and curve.

There are newel post that can be involved. Curved "turn style" on the first step etc. Hears the basic start on layout

Can you be a bit more specific

I can build basic stairs and have done 2 handrailing jobs using a"pitch" block to cut the angles on the railing. What I am looking for is to learn how to build curved stairs and the proper way to cut the angles and bevels for curved handrailing. The research I have done calls this tangent handrailing.

You and me both. Seen engineers and highly skilled stair builders screw that up. There is a mered of calculations in radius and heights that can go wrong here.

Building for over 30 years and never built a curved handrail from scratch. Its alwalys a shop drawing and pre built in shop and then taken down to re build on site... None of this is really DiY project unless a kit is bought. Sorry The skills here take years to develop or a very long time to struggle to make it by ones self on site. Its all custom work
