Questions about Gauge If right or wrong?
For Professional Sound Entertainment we normally need more power than a regular 15 amp current with U ground so I made a distro that plugs into a range (common in this business) and when I was at the store buying the wire I asked for wire that can handle 20 amps, I think they gave me 14 instead of 12 with ground, neural, and 2 live. This is being used for amp racks and it supplies it to a 20 amp twist lock with a double 20 amp breaker. Is this wire OK for this job? I have pictures if needed to see

You are right, 12 gauge for 20 amps. Before excanging the wire, I would wait to see what tkrussel has to say about the whole setup. He knows a lot more about all this than I do.

Yes need to use #12 wire, Many local codes in populated areas generally require cord must be rated extra hard usage for any stage/studio equipment. SO cord is typical.

Also, check all the terminal and blade connections on the distro, two-fers, and powerstrips periodically. They take a good beating, and a failed connection has stopped many a gig.

12 gauge or 14 gauge? [ 6 Answers ]

This may seem like a relatively simple question, but I wanted to get a professionals verification. Is this always the case and are there exceptions to this...
