Great Dane puppy sleeps too much?
I just picked up my great dane puppy 4 days ago, but I think he's sleeping too much. He's 8 weeks old and I just want to know if its normal for him to sleep this much. He will sleep for about 2 hours or more at a time then be active for half an hour to an hour then sleep again.

And he hasn't been eating all that much (but he is eating about a cup or two a day) I think that's just cause he left his family and isn't settled in yet. Am I right in thinking this?

That's not an unusual sleep pattern. Is he going full tilt when he's active? Just one hour playing may indicate some anxiety or loneliness. Has he decided on his favorite toy yet?

Sleepig that often is perfectly normal for an 8 week old puppy.
1-2 cups of food a day is normal as well.
What are you feeding? He needs a giant breed puppy food with less than 24% protein.

Iams large breed puppy food. Is there a better brand of puppy food I should be using?

I just had a quick check and iams has 26% protein, you should be OK but if you don't mind switching it would be better.

Feeding a large breed food with a higher protein content can cause them to grow to fast and can cause growth deformities.
While some people have fed higher protein and had no problems I find it better to err to the side of caution.

My mother has Great Danes and she feeds Eagle Pack Holistic Giant Breed. It only has 23% protein content.
If you do not like this product then feel free to do your own research :)

A lot of the better dog foods can be ordered online and delivered right to your door. Often times it's actually cheaper then a pet store and it's better quality.

    It's definitely worth looking into.

Also, we love pictures. Especially puppy pictures. Just saying. ;)

Exactly right Alty, had to spread the rep though.

When my mum first started feeding Eagle Pack it was not available anywhere here, she had to get it ordered in from America.
I think we end up paying double what you guys do for it but it's a great food.

There are quite a few other brands that are very respectable as well, Wellness, California Natural and a new one that I have only just heard about that is supposed to be brilliant: Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers Soul (or somwthing very close to that!)
