    Realised gross profit for 2008:
    2007 sales - 500,000 x 30% = 150,000
    2008 sales - 600,000 x 40% = 240,000
    Total realised gross profit... 390,000

Um... you still really need to not being doing people's problems for them. Explaining, yes. Doing, no. (And let people do their own calculator work. They shouldn't be helpless.)

Thank you a lot rehmanvohra, morgaine300 sometimes you have to understand we really don't know what to do, if our teacher just gave us work and don't explain it, and for exam we get it wrong, we'll want to know why.
This is not homework these are the questions we got wrong without an explanation.

Peachey, I am first of all following the guidelines as set down by this site. Second, I agree with those guidelines. Third, yes I DO understand that sometimes you just don't know what to do. I teach for a living so I'm well aware of that fact. In fact, since this is exactly what I do for a living, I'm much more aware of the learning process than most people here.

Which is why I'm well aware that not only is giving answers away unethical, but also that there is a difference between giving an answer and explaining something. A big difference. Seeing an answer usually doesn't teach anyone anything, even when the calculations are included, because it doesn't explain the why behind it. So it's generally not even helping anyone to do so.

Most importantly, that post had nothing to do with you. That person is constantly just giving away homework answers, usually with no explanation, and that just isn't what we're supposed to be doing here. It was merely another reminder. It just encourages people to come here and get their homework done for them - and trust me, that is exactly what a lot of these people are trying to do.

In your particular case, I'm aware that you've been trying and working. If something isn't homework, say so. (All you did was present a problem.) But if that was an exam, you can still provide the work you did, can you not? And then you can get an explanation of why it was incorrect, which is what you were looking for. You can actually learn more by having your error corrected than by just seeing a correct answer (usually).

We are using past exam papers and trying to understand them, but we are not thought how do them, so I don't know what to do.
