    Loss of haemoglobin
I am 63 years of age and suffering of loss of haemoglobin.blood transfusion done .After blood transfusion haemoglobin reaches to normal value but again decreases abnormally within weeks time.I am a diabetic patient.Blood sugar also increases.Right now suffering from jaundice also.Pls suggest if jaundice results in loss of haemoglobin.Doctors done a lot of tests still find no reasons for loss of haemoglobin continuously.Pls suggest for the loss of haemoglobin. After blood transfusion haemoglobin increases and reaches to 14 but in weeks time it drastically decreased to 6,then again to do blood transfusion. What is this anemia and concrete solution for it.

Sorry, but we cannot give you a concrete answer or solution for your problem. If we had access to your medical records maybe we could help a little more.

Did the doc give you the name of the kind of anemia you are suffering from?
Do you take iron supplements, eat red meats, green leafy vegetables?

Did your doctor tell you that you may have a condition called Hemodilution? This is where the concentration of red blood cells or other blood elements is lowered. Did your doctor tell you if you have an increase in your plasma volume?

Did s/he call it Hemoglobin C Disease? Or could it have been Hemolysis?

However, to me it sounds as though it may be Hemolytic Anemia. If this is the case, have you been checked for any infectious diseases. Are you on any medications?

As for the jaundice, it sounds as though you could have hemolytic jaundice which is a yellowsh discoloration of the skin caused by the breakdown of the red blood cells.

Another one here, Hyperbilirubinemia? This is most often associated with liver disease or biliary obstruction, but it also occurs where there is excessive destruction of red blood cells.

Have you and a kidney and liver panel done recently?

No kidney and liver disease as showed by test reports. As per doctors they not cleared the type of anaemia.many tests for RBC done include Coombs test but showed negative. They are saying the condition fits in Hemolytic jaundice.Reticulocytes count are showing 4%.Haemotologist suggested for Bone Marrow test.
Right now I am taking homeopathic medicine. Suggest homeopathy has a cure for it?
Alternatively What is the cure in allopathy as per the symptoms given

    Vibhorg2006-

I wouldn't depend on alternative medicine with Hemolytic Anemia (with jaundice)
Would you benefit from a bone marrow transplant? I would get the bone marrow biopsy first & even if I had to continue with transfusions only- I wouldn't just rely on homeopathic" cures"
True, the causes of some anemias are just unknown (idiopathic) but may I suggest you exhaust your options ? Just my thoughts. I'm a nurse. I would get the bone marrow biopsy.

Another thought- Maybe sunshine can help a little with the jaundice. Ask your Doc, it's like phototherapy that is given for newborns with jaundice. Good Luck to you!

I do know that this is a hereditary hemolytic anemia. It may require regular blood product transfusions, but any other treatment for this condition is above my knowledge. You need to discuss that with your Hematologist. I don't even have the most recent texts on this, I apologize. Maybe you could even search online for information. Like webmd.com and the like.

Bone marrow transplant? splenectomy? You really need a good Hematologist's opinion.

I too have thalassemia Minor. Well, they say I have the minor. I think it's more like the Intermediary. Because the minor supposedly you don't have any problems with hemoglobin or anemia. I am borderline anemic and my hemoglobin is a 9.9. I'm kind of nervous. In feb. 14 of this year I was 10.4 and I've been coming down less and less. My doctor is trying as many tests as she can. I've had an ultrasound, pelvic exam and blood tests galore. That's how I found out I had a hereditary disease called Thalassemia. What can be done about it or is there no cure? I am feeling so weak and tired all the time lately. Falling asleep in the car, luckily I'm the passanger most of the time. But anything that can be done for my tiredness. How far do they want your blood to be before they give you a transplant? Thanks for your help.
