Can 7mth labpup play with 7wk lab pup safely
I have a 7 Month Lab pup who weighs 80lbs and we just got a 7 week pup for him to play with. He plays well with her but gets a little rough. Is it OK to let them play or can he really hurt her?

We do it all the time. You do need to supervise it. Do not leave them alone. If the baby is getting the worst of it, step in and correct the older one. We had a year old Lab in the house last month the first week after getting Holly at not quite 7 weeks. The 2 of them had a good time. In the spring, our daughter stayed here with her 7 week old Lab and our about 6 month old. She is one of the few bigger puppies we have had to correct for playing too rough. We always have a puppy less than a year old. We often have other ones visiting. There is almost never a need to step in. I was once keeping about a 2 month old for a friend. I was given a poorly socialized, intact, male, 15 month old, Lab. The 2 of them played together fine. So do it, just stop it if the bigger one gets too rough.

Now 10 week old Holly will have about 8 month old Zephyr to play with this weekend.

How old should the pup be before you can keep them together
All the time in the same dog house to keep each other company?

We never do that. All our dogs and visiting dogs sleep in the house, in a individual crate or on a tie down. I would at least wait until the puppy has much of its growth at 4 months. They also need to establish a good record of playing well together.

Holly just came in from about an hour of poorly supervised play with 8 month old Zephyr no worse for the wear.

It all depends on the older dogs... if he is full of energy and plays rough I would say no but I would go and put the dogs but have someone supervise them
    GOOD LUCK

If you have any experience where a small puppy actually got hurt, I would be interested in the details. I am talking more than a yelp to signal the larger dog to back off.

We had 7 month old Peggy, a high energy field Lab in the house when we got 7 week old Lola. Yes, there were a few yelps out of Lola, but nothing that kept her from coming right back. As long as somebody is there to intervene if needed, I see no problem. We very seldom have had to do anything.
