Resigning my job because of immigration
Okay, so I am writing since I resigned from my job, I gave the proper 2 weeks notice, and the reason is because I was immigrating to another country. I worked in the US and now I am living overseas. I have not found another job yet. I received my last paycheck ast work , which they said they owed me, but I wonder if I should get more money. For instance, I know when you are downsized , the company gives you a severance package, so I wonder if the same thing applies to me. Should I have received a severance package since I immigrated to another country without a job.

    Thanks!

No it wouldn't apply as far as I know because
    A. You chose to quit
    B. If there wasn't anything they agreed to in writing that they give you more money at quitting then they owe you nothing.

So what did they ever tell you about severance pay and their policy on it?

Well, we never discussed severance pay when I met with HR on my last day. Through talking to others, I know the company pays severance with employees are laid off, downsized. Even though my situation was unique because I told them I was resigning due to immigrating to another country. That's why I'm trying to find out, research to see if they might owe me. If so, then I can go to them with my reasons. Thanks!

You quit because you wanted to quit, not that the company laid you off, nor did they downsize, therefore you are not entitled to severance pay.

You are just plain out of luck
