I just moved in this house and found a leak in a pipe in the wall, it's been leaking at least for a year or two, all the insulation in the wall was wet and gave off a bad smell, I left the wall open for two weeks and then closed it , but the smell is still in my cabiinets. Will it ever go away or what can I do?

What was done about the pipe? Was the wet insulation pulled out and replaced or was it simply left in the walls and covered up? Did you check for mold? Describe the smell in the cabinets, Back to you, Tom

The pipe in the wall had an 1inch hole pointing dowh so every time you did the dishes and pulled the drain all the water would end up in the basement, with that size of the hole it had to be leaking for at least a year or two, I would think. The people before me had a dehumidifier and thought the water was from the rain water getting in. I took all the wet insulation in the walls all the way to the basement about 1 foot down and to the end walls out about 8 feet, replaced the pipe, poured arm & hammer in and left it open for a couple of weeks to dry it out, then vacuumed out the arm & hammer and I did not see any signs of mold , then sprayed it with great stuff insulating foam sealant about 20 cans up to the pipe that leaked, then boarded it up, but it still smells.
