How do I go about claiming for my uniform
Hi
On Tuesday I was sent home to go change my formal denim skirt because they were made of denim, but what was personally communicated to us was that tight jeans were banned, I was highly upset at the fact that my boss had the ordasity to send me home and not even allow me to wait for the traffic to calm down:mad
Now I am upset because before I worked here all staff members had been having uniforms bought for them every season so yes it is very easy for them to go throughout the week without wearing jeans, as for me 90% of my clothing is formal denim which is what I could afford, at the moment clothes are a luxury for me, Am I wrong by asking the company to purchase me a uniform that I will wear mon - fri, and how do I go about it legally as I have written a letter to my boss and he says he will talk about it on Monday and I know he is going to find a way out of it...
Help please!!

Hello m:
If uniforms are supplied to all employees, ask your boss to supply you one. If he doesn't, then it looks like he doesn't want you to work there.

The thing is that it is not compulsory for them to wear it because of politics I want no part of, but is if fear for me to ask for it so that I can wear it on a daily basis?

What part of shopping at Goodwill for some suitable pants don't you understand? If all you can afford is "formal denim" pants maybe you should get a few pairs off the rack at Goodwill if the boss does not want to spring for a uniform for you? For less than $10 you can get several pairs of suitable pants.
Anyway, what is formal denim?

JudyKT - Ordasity is the same as idiocity (at least in my Webster's uninformed dictionary).
I'm still waiting for the meaning of a formal denim skirt... Does that mean it has rhinestones or the word "formal" embroidered on it somewhere to make it a formal denim skirt. Frankly, if all you have in your closet is "formal" denim I'd go out and do some serious shopping in another store other than KMart. Denim is NEVER formal regardless of how much it costs.

If they buy uniforms for all new employees ( not what they used to do last year) then you can ask them to buy you some. They don't have to supply a lot, ( you may have to wash them every day or two)
But many places will and do require you to buy certain clothes, white shirts, black pants and so on.
It is not a extra it is a requirement, if you want to work, you have to buy the work clothes they demand

What type of company do you work for? What type of work do you do? Why would uniforms be needed for some workers? Does the company have a printed handbook that specifies a dress code?
There are too many questions that need answers before a definitive solution can be given you. Please provide the answers to my questions so we can help further.

That is the thing there was never a code of conduct given to any of us especially about what we have to wear, and you twinkiedooter I am the one employee who earns the smallest salary and have to feed two families out of it so shoot me if I can't exacly take R1000 and go buy cloths just because someone else wore the wrong type of jeans "too tight", even the HR manager did say not ONCE have I come to work looking untidy nor unprofessional, so YES I do not mind wearing a uniform day in day out and for your info when I first started here I specifically asked what to wear and the only mensioned straples tops and flat shoes so... and formal denim skirt is a pencil under knee lenghted in black.
