    Permutation or derivation
    How many different selections of 3 cards can be made from 12 face cards? Combination or permutation and why?

    Combinations of 12 things selected 3 at a time



    The order of the cards is irrelevant. If you're dealt "King-Queen-Jack", you can rearrange it without changing your hand to "Jack-King-Queen". If the order were important, the 3! In the denominator would be removed.
