    Dual citizenship France US
I was born in Deols, France, while my father worked there for 5 years. He and my Mother are US citizens. I have a french birth certificate. I am 47 years old. I would like to have French Citizenship for a number of reasons. Can I obtain dual citizenship, and at this age. I was naturalized, and despite the wording of the naturalization certificate, it has not held up in court for others, at least for some countries. I'd like to know how to go about following through with this process. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well of course, one parent has french citizenship, so you are entitled, but I think according to an international agreement it won't be possible for you to retain your US citizenship. There are different factors that are not quite apparent and change from year to year according to how countries get along with each other. Say, you could retain US if you were a Canadian citizenship. I know this for certain because my son was born in US and we, parents, are both Cdn.

I don't understand the reasoning when international travel is so free now. You can be french national and still visit and live in the US for a certain amount of months. So what difference does it make ?

You may want to call the French embassy, or the US embassy, where ever you happen to be living and check with them.
