I have an above ground pool. Im going to run a 20 amp line through PVC conduit 18" underground to the pump. Im going to stub up and terminate 5' from the side of the pool for the pump. Im going to mount a 2 gang weather proof box, 1 duplex rec. and 1 toggle switch for the disconnecting means all protected by an GFC! Breaker.

Am I missing anything here? Should the disconnecting means be 10' from the pool? Im hearing 5' is OK and that 10' is the code. Ive looking in the 2005 nec but I don't have the current 2008.

Since you have access to a code book check out 680.26 Equipotential Bonding. If you don't understand that section of the code then you need to start thinking about hiring an electrician or doing some serious research.

Now that the disclaimer portion of this post is over...

To answer the specific question in your post. You don't need the switch if your equipment is connected with a cord and plug. The cord and plug can serve as the disconnecting means. To determine where you can place the receptacle for the equipment look at 680.22(A)(1). There are conditions that allow you to have it at 5' but you must adhere to all of them for it to be allowed.
