Is being afraid enough to break a rental lease?
My daughter is 19 and she lived in the dorm her first year of college, for the summer
She rented an apartment. She has spent 3 nights in the apartment in the last 6 weeks.
Her brothers best friend was murdered, stabbed to death in his apartment at college last year and I feel this is why she is so afraid. She is upset with herself and miserable and
I want her to break this lease because she has a part time job and is putting herself through college. I would appreciate any advice you could give us. Our home state is Texas.

    A) When did the murder occur - was it before or after she rented the apartment?
    B) Was it in the same building or city?
    C) Was it a random murder?

The only reason I'm asking is because:
    A) If the murder occurred before she rented the apartment, she should have been scared before signing the lease - it won't work as reasonable grounds.
    B) If it happened elsewhere, I can understand being scared but it wasn't done locally.
    C) If the murder was premediated or committed by someone who knew the victim, she has nothing to be afraid of.

She can try to talk to her apartment manager/landlord to see what her options are.

    Hello by:

Nope... If she has REASON to be afraid, it could be. But, she doesn't really have any reason other than her own paranoia. That's NOT the landlords fault.
