:confused:Hello, I had a small stroke a couple years ago which messed around with my right arm and leg. This passed after a couple days. Told a friend about it later and it panicked her and was pressured to go to the doctor. I did go and got another scolding and was told to immediately get help right away. Tests showed a couple dark places on the left:rolleyes: side of my brain. My question is 'could it have affected my short-time memory?

Yes, the stroke could have had a lot to do with your short term memory loss. Now are you on proper medication to evert another stroke ? I hope so :)

The dark spot [ on CT ] is from the stoke. In general one side of th brain controls the opposite side of the body.

Memory loss is caused by many things among them is vascular disease of the brain such as what led to your sroke.

The risk factors include high cholesterol, smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes. You should be checked for all these conditions.


Strokes may also be due to a clot that travels from one part of the body [ heart or carotid arteries ] to another [ the brain = stroke ]. Called an embolus.

The carotid arteries should be checked for critical narrowing [ ultrasound ] and your heart should be checked for clots [ ECHO ] or an irregular rhythm [ atrial fibrillation ] that can put an individua; at higher risk for stroke.

There are other behavioral things that can be done - don't smoke, do drugs, drink alcohol in excess, learn something new everyday, socialize that can help maintain memory.
