    Early lease termination
My husband and I have 8 months left on the home we lease in Florida. The dealership he works at lost their chryler franchise and we might be moving to So. Carolina for us both to be employed. I am not and was not working when we signed our lease, but with the loss at work his pay will drop substantially making it impossible to pay the rent. I have not been able to find a job locally. If we have to move, can the landlord hold us to our lease?

Unfortunately, yes, the landlord can hold you to your lease. The only way you would not be held to the lease is if it contains a paragraph stating that you have the right to terminate early. And Florida is one of the worst states in which to break a lease because their laws do not require the landlord to look for a new tenant.

The best thing you can do is talk to your landlord right away and explain the situation. The landlord may allow you to find someone to take over the balance of your lease or they may allow you to break the lease in return for a payment such as forfeiting your security deposit.

Yes they can, you may be able to work out a buyout perhaps. Florida is one of the worst states sice they are not obligated to even find a new renter
