    Painting with Polyurethane/Latex
I have a wooden table that I wish to put out of doors and I want to seal it and paint it white, so it can take the weather. It presently is just stained. Do I poly it first and then paint it and then poly over the paint or what?

You want to sand it, prime it, paint it, then poly.

Sand table if needed, prime with an exterior primer (I like XIM), paint with an exterior gloss enamel (a few coats) and by the way - no poly...

    Hi, jack fisher!

If it's just stained, then as already mentioned, sanding and priming with an exterior primer and paint with at least a couple coats of paint. If you use a polyurethane over the paint, then it's not going to be perfectly white.

I like to use Sherwin-Williams products or Dutch Boy. Sherwin-Williams own Dutch Boy paint products.

Using all water-based products should be fine. I painted many of the exterior portions of my home about six years ago using Dutch Boy exterior paints and most of the areas that I painted still look like I just painted them.

    Thanks!
