I live in a condo and I am in the process of replacing my A/C. The compressor is on the roof and the air handler in the ceiling of my unit. I have a bid to replace the existing system with a 2 Ton 13 Seer Trane 410 A Model #4TTR3024A and 1St Company PanCake Air Handler
Model 24HX5 for $3000. The price is the best for a 410 system. I was offered 2550 for a R22 system, but that refrigerant will be replaced. The quote includes flushing the existing system but uses existing duct work and copper pipes. I have been reading about need for new copper for 410. Is that required or can existing copper be used on 2 Ton systems?
They also include a safety float switch. What is that and how does it work?
They do not include a disconnect box or liquid line drier. What are they and do I need them?
Finally, they use existing electrical and they will be installing a digital thermostat. Will I need new electrical for this installation?

As long as the copper lines are flushed out with a proper flush kit the you will not need new lines. A float switch is installed in the drainpan so if you have a leak your celing will not get floaded as it will shut the unit down.

R22 will be around forever, it just can't be manufactured after 2020.

(January 1, 2020:
Use of existing refrigerant, including refrigerant that has been recovered and recycled, will be allowed beyond 2020 to service existing systems, but chemical manufacturers will no longer be able to produce R-22 to service existing air conditioners and heat pumps.

The lines do not have to be replaced if you use R22 and only will need replacing if you use 410A and the copper is not all Type L copper pipe.

If you use R22 it is not a bad idea to have the pipes flushed and they must be flushed if you use 410A.

You should have a float switch now but it would not hurt to replace it now.

In my area you have to have a disconnect box within arms length from the unit, it does not have to be a fused box, only a disconnect.

If you have a 4 wire low voltage system and they replace the equipment that needs 4 wires you will not have to change any wiring.
