    Power line height
How high does the power line need to be when it comes from the pole to the house? The line to the house I just bought seems low - about 8 or 9 feet off the ground before it attaches to the house. If it need to be raised, how expensive would that be, and would it be my problem or the electric company's? (I'm wondering, because I think if it's a problem before the meter it is there responsibility.) I'm sure I'll be asking a lot more questions before I'm done fixing this place up, so thanks for any help you can give me now and in the future.

Not all utilities follow the same rules.

Typical would be Your responsible from the service drop. The meter base must be approved. Your not responsible for the meter and may not remove or install it.

The service drop is the line that terminates near the mast head. Your responsible for the mast head.

According to the NEC, the drop needs to be 10' from the ground, for voltages less than 600. Your utility company should be able to tell you if that is what they expect, or if they allow any variance.
