Tooth extraction- pieces working out 2 years later?
My husband had 10 teeth removed about 2 years ago and had a full upper denture put in. The oral surgeon he went to removed 10 teeth in 10 minutes. Now he has a piece of one of the teeth working its way out of his gums. It appears to be about the size of a baby tooth. He is unable to wear his dentures as it causes too much pain. Is there anyway to expedite the tooth working its way out?

He should see an oral surgeon to have that corrected before he has a serious infection progressing. Is he in pain ?

He should go back to the same oral surgeon and they should remove the remaining fragment. Perhaps the doctor will do it at no charge but the only way to be sure is to ask.

He is only in pain when he tries to put his dentures in. Of course, they are kind of nice if you want to eat anything!! I will see if I can get him to go back to the same oral surgeon. It might be a hard sell as he still has nightmares about the initial extraction. If not, we will have to see if we can find someone else. Thanks for your ideas!!

It is not uncommon for bone chips to work their way to the surface a year or more after the teeth are removed. Your husband should see a dentist and have them removed. They should be relatively easy to remove.
