    2001 Kia Sephia
I have a 01 sephia and for about 8 months every time you put gas in it you have to pump the gas into it before it will start and keep doing so until you drive it down the road a little bit. I don't know if that has to do with what's happening now but the car won't start. It will turn over and my husband hard wired the fuel pump and it is still working. My husband works on vehicles all the time and he is completely lost! Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it?

. Test all under hood and under dash fuses with a test light or multimeter:

    . Check for codes.

    . Check for spark.

. Correct the fuel pump wiring. Hard wiring the fuel pump is a fireball waiting to happen, if you're in an accident. Focus on the fuel pump fuse and the fuel pump relay. The fuel rail needs to be fully pressurized, before the engine will start. I recommend correcting the fuel system to how it was originally. I can see where the ECM could have a major problem with the current configuration and prevent the engine from starting.

He has tested all of the fuses and wiring. He only hard wired the fuel pump to see if it was working nothing permanent.

That's good. Has he checked for codes and spark?

Kia Sephia 2000 fuel pump does not start when ignition is on [ 1 Answers ]

The car takes 3-4 long-tries to start. It works fine after started. I have found that the fuel pump does not have the usual 2-second working sound when the key turns to "on" position. I checked the pump input wires and did not detect a voltage so I guess the pump does not start because no power is...
