Can more than 1 misdemeanor be expunged?
I now live in TN, but have several misdemeanors on my record from KY when I lived there, (4th/assault and terroristic threatening). I phoned the court office to enquire about the expungement process and was told by the clerk that I may not be able to receive any expungements due to there being more than 1 misdemeanor, but she said it is up to the judge! Is this true in the state of KY? If this the case, it's wrongfully holding me back from a better future! That was sooo many years ago. Please help. I want a clear record so I can get another job.

    Hello mz:

It's probably true. The idea behind an expungement is to give people who broke the law ONCE, another chance. However, when you broke the law more than once, the idea behind an expungement doesn't fit your circumstance...

It IS holding you back, but not WRONGFULLY so.

If all of your misdemeanors happened at the same time, lets say you stole something, and did a high speed chase, and hit a police officer, That would be basically one crime, but you may have 2 or 3 or 4 charges.

In that, you can show you went so many years with no additional crime.

If you did a crime, then a few months or a year latter did another crime, there is the problem, almost never do they explunge that, since you can't prove you went a number of years without another crime ( only one crime)

Also you are going to have to go about 8 to 10 years from the crime.
