Crazy mother
Okay so I have to younger sisters and we all live in Georgia. My mother initaly kicked me out with my daughter at 16, I am now 18 and have no desire to move back in with her. Now my younger sisters who are 16 and 17 have been kicked out by our mom. Now I know technically that the 17yr old can leave on her own because in Georgia she's technically an adult. But what about the 16yr old.what can I do as her older sister to keep her with me and away from my unstable mother. We really think that she's going through some sort of serious mental issues and possibly drugs. By the way to just throw it out there all of this started after she married her current but separated husband. He who is also verbally, mentally, and even physically abusive to my mother and sisters

I don't know about georgia's state laws but you might be able to file for a guardianship if you're willing and able to take your sister in.

The 17 year old is NOT an adult. I don't know where your getting that from but its WRONG. What you might want to do is call CPS on her from abandonment. This IS a case where it applies because she left them without means. At that time you can apply to be the guardian of them but your going to have everything lined up and be super responsible.

Sorry califdadof3, in Georgia for some reason a 17 can move out and the state will not do anything, I found this out first hand when my 17 decided to move out, there was no help, they are allowed to here.
Now at 17 they can't sign a contract, rent a house, get electric in their name, but they can move out if they want.

That's my point. There may be laws governing the move out issue but they still are not considered an adult. Best to not to even confuse that line. This is what I was responding to:
" quote " Now I know technically that the 17yr old can leave on her own because in Georgia she's technically an adult. " end quote "
The answer is still no!. lol
She isn't technically an adult until she reaches the age of emancipation.. which I still believe is 18 in Georgia.
