Am I infertile?
Hi. Im 34, mother of 11 year old son.
I've been trying to conceive for the past 2 years and nothing has happened so far. I never took any birth control pills, shot or the like, so I don't understand why it has been so IMPOSSIBLE for me to get pregnant now??
What amazes me is that I last saw my period Mar 16/2009 (today is May 19!)
Im so afraid to take a pregnancy test because I've always seen negative results. Can I be pregnant? Oh another thing, I heard that its hard to conceive if you're overweight... is that true?
Thanks for your answers.

First of all if you missed your period for so long. Please get the test. It is better you knowing either way. The earlier you know you could be pregnant the better. You can start prenatels and makes sure this possible pregnancy has a good start.
As far as taking a couple of years, if after a couple of years of not being able to conceive then I would suggest you and your partner get checked out for fertility problems.
As far as it being harder to conceive just because somebody is over weight. That is a myth. It does not matter whether your 100 or 300 or 400 pounds you can still get pregnant all the same.
So first step is get a pregnancy test. It is not a 100 percent. Get a blood test from your doctor. Blood tests for pregnancy is more accurate.
Good luck.

I agree with Jesushelper on the need to take a pregnancy test, and to have you and your partner tested if you are not pregnant.
Some people do experience what is known as secondary infertility... when you have already had a child but find it difficult to become pregnant again. The male factor can also be a factor... the percentage is rather high that infertility can be an issue due to the male partner having something that needs to be addressed.
For some women, however, weight can play a role. Being greatly underweight or overweight can influence hormones... how much will depend on the individual. Excessive weight can also be an indication of specific fertility concerns such as PCOS... inwhich case it can be more of a symptom than necessarily a cause.

Thank you guys sooooo much for the answers, you really made my day!
Jesushelper76: as a matter of fact, I took a pregnancy test last week and it came out negative, but I don't know what to believe. Still no period for almost 3 months and I would say I have some "symptoms" such as bloating, sleeping desire, headache, dizziness and tiredom. I made an appt. with my Dr. but the soonest he can see me is 07-10, so I don't know if I can take a blood test w/o a prescription??

DoulaLC: what exactly is PCOS? And talking about the "male factor" I don't know if the fact that my b/f is 55 and Im 34 should be considered an issue for not getting pregnant?? We took a sperm count test (for him) and it came out OK. I took an ovulation test and also came out OK, I mean, I do ovulate normally.
In any case, I need to know if I can go to a walk-in clinic to have a blood test performed?

Here's a helpful site regarding PCOS:
SoulCysters.com: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Treatment & Resources
Age can play a role sometimes for men simply due to the longer exposure to environmental pollutants, greater likelihood of possible health concerns, etc. that may effect sperm health besides just numbers.
A walk-in clinic might be able to do the blood test there for you. You could always call first and inquire.

Being over weight can slow downt he pregnancy process. Being late as you are though, you might be pregnant... or it could be from stressing over being pregnant.
If you take a home pregnancy test and it comes out negative, I sugest you go to a free clinic and get tested there. Home pregnancy tests are known to sometimes be duds. Some woman don't have enough hormons for the test till there half way through the pregnancy.
Go to the OBGYN if your still not pregnant and ask for some fertility pills, they will help a lot. Best of wishes and good luck!
