    HOa board-hiding something?
I live in SC and I am having an issue with my HOA Board. I asked for the minutes of their monthly meetings as well as when and where the next HOA meeting was taking place, so that I could attend to voice some concerns. I was told by the HOA, that they did not need to provide me with the minutes of their meetings. Where is the transparency with this board, I asked them. Can they legally withhold the minutes to the meetings and still be considered a functioning board? What can I do about this?

    Hello j:

You can run for office. You can get copies of the By-laws and read where they have to supply minutes. You can hire an attorney to force them. You can attend a meeting and throw the bums out...

    I'd try them all..

The key is the by-laws. You are entitled to a copy of the by-laws and that will specify what your rights are.

Most HOA are not bound by the open meetings act and usually follow the Condominium Act. Scott is dead on about reading your covenants and by-laws. The covenants are the strongest, the first and hardest to change rules governing the HOA.
