I trained my dog to ring a bell when he wants to go outside. Tie a bell to the door you'll be taking him out. Make sur he can reach it. Bring him to the door and you ring the bell then immediately take him outside. Tell him to go potty and give him lots of praise if he does. Do this about every hour or two. Encourage him to ring the bell himself. Eventually he'll catch on.

Crate training has nothing to do with toilet training.

Is the puppy going to be on it's own all day?

You will need to make sure she has plenty of water and toys so she doesn't get bored and destructive.

As for toilet training it's going to be very hard when there is no-one to supervise it for most of the day.
When toilet training you have to catch the puppy in the act and direct it to where it is supposed to wee.
So if you see her weeing on the carpet you say "no" pick her up and put her on a puppy pad or outside on the grass.

Remember puppies have very small bladders so she will wee while you are at school.

I'd go with puppy pads to start with so she doesn't make a mess.

Is she going to be put in a crate while you are not home?
Or let free run of the house/a room?

Br prepared to have to clean up a lot of mess on both the bedding and the puppy and for her to be very bored and depressed if you keep her in a crate all day.

EDIT - Sorry, I said "she" through all that... I mean "he" :)

You have very good intentions as any new Mom to be does but you need to be very educated and really do your homework.

Don't just go to any site on line for information, there is a lot of bad info out there. There is also good .You should also have your parents involved as they will need to pay the bills :)

Call a vet ,see if you can visit at a vets office. You can't just do this wrong. This is family once he walks through the door.

Go volunteer at a shelter and see first hand about animals. It is a huge responsibility and one that you have to prepare for.

I know will you get a lot of good advice here and I know that you want to do the best you can.Or else you would not have asked.Keep asking honey.
    Knowledge is power!
    Good luck
