After the running of the bulls, what happens to the bulls in the arena?
I heard that the bulls were used for their meat but then I heard that they don't do that anymore.

What happens to the bulls used during the running of the bulls in pamplona?

The bulls end up in pens beside a bullring. They are later used in Bullfights, which is more than a guy dancing around the bull with a cape; it is the slow wounding and killing of a bull over 20 minutes or so. The bull has no chance of winning, and is basically mutilated as it slowly dies. Boycott Spain! Don't attend any Spanish festivals, many involving animal cruelty (There's one where they drag a bull around the town by ropes until it dies of exchaustion, another where they throw hundreds of darts at a bull until it bleeds to death on the city streets). Only by dropping their tourist industry will they listen and stop the cruelty. THAT is what happens to the bulls in the Running of the Bulls. Don't believe me? Think I'm exaggerating? I'm actually keeping it 'cleaned up' - search bullfights on YouTube, and you can actually see bulls slowly dying with a sword stuck through their back, vomiting blood, and having their ears cut off as they lie paralysed on the ground.

It is one of the worst things human beings do to animals.

I've never been, never would go, but I watched a documentary on it. It was horrible, I still get nightmares.

Those poor animals are killed slowly and painfully, delirious with pain, people taunting them, throwing things, it's horrific.

The only time I cheered throughout the entire documentary was when one of the bulls trampled one of the spectators that was throwing things. I hope it hurt.

There are many animal rights organizations trying to ban this, but sadly not enough people care about the bulls.

I can't STAND people who behave this way!! I am a loving accepting person... but this is one thing I just cannot swallow or accept. Its WRONG!!

And its worse in mexico!!

It is good to hear that I'm not the only one cheering when the bull hurts someone... In my opinion, if people choose to get entertained from a violent and cruel spectacle, it must go both ways: it is easy to cheer and shrug off the cruelty, but not if they themselves are hurt and in danger. "Don't just watch, get in there and participate, then we'll see if you like it when you are gored through the chest just like the bull is speared."

Also Altenweg, I'm not sure that it is people not caring about the bull (although many obviously do not care). Almost everyone I talk to has no idea what actually happens at a bull 'fight'. They think it is just a guy making it angry, and artistically dodging the bull with his cape. Others think all they do is stick a few barbs in, no real damage done considering the size of the animal and it's tough hide. They have no awareness of the actual cruelty. Then one day they do to Spain or Mexico, attend a bull 'fight' to experience the culture, and don't know what is happening until the bull is gushing blood everywhere.

I've watched many shows on the actual cruelty of the bull fights and the running of the bulls. It's horrific to watch.

Yes, I cheer when someone gets gored, go bull go! I think it's only fair. Play with fire, get burnt, that's the way of the world. Sadly the bull doesn't have a choice in being there whereas the people do.

If no one showed up to the bull fights and the running of the bulls this cruelty would stop.
