Shower Base secure against wall stud?
Well, I was just thinking, since I recently learned that the manufacturer's instructions for shower installation is total garbage; I am worried that maybe some other stuff I should double check.
Should I secure my shower base against the studs in the wall? My shower is neo-angle with a plastic base. I see there is lots of room to screw the base near the lip against a wall stud. I could then bring my water-proof dry wall down overtop the lip (as said in instructions) with the tile reaching a little bit lower than this. I could even use stainless steel screws with washer and put a dab of silicon on the screw head. And silicon all under the dry-wall where it meets the shower base.. just fill that entire cavity. The walls for the shower are frameless glass. I don't think they actually get secured to the base.. more just rest on it. What do you think? Knucklez |

Most of the showers we plumb for are custom tile. The few bases I've plumbed for didn't need to be secured, but we just plumb the drainage and water. We don't build the enclosures. The weight of the enclosure plus the drain should keep it secure from moving. Unless the manufacture recommends it I wouldn't screw it to the wall.
