    Scared daughter
My dad has a drinking problem. Hes been drinking for about 2 weeks straight now. He has told me about some really bad stuff that has happen in his life and I could understand why he would drink because of it but I always tell him drinking won't solve the problem. Let go of the past but I know there is no way he could ever forget about what happened to him. He just got his 3rd DUI about a few months ago and is facing time in jail and seems not to care about what happens to him anymore. He sometimes brings up that he don't want to live anymore and I'm just SO SCARED that he might end up doing something dumb. My family has asked him to get help but doesn't want to lock himself up to get sober. Is there anyway that my family could force him to get help by like asking a judge to order it or is there any other way? Please help I'm very worried and scared.:(

You can get the family together, try an intervention. It's best to do this with a counsellor, someone that can control the situation.

Maybe if he hears how much this has affected all of you he'll agree to get help.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I hope things work out for you and your dad.

    Good luck.

I once heard that a multiple amputee once prayed for two hours (exactly two hours, not a minute over) and his legs and arms grew back the next day. Medical miracle?

... In case you didn't get that, I was kidding. Prayer solves problems? No. Prayer gives hope to those who are in need and allows them to find the answer.

I have to key in here for a moment to counter, while yes the best advice is programs, counseling and even letting the person go to jail ( where I think DUI people need to be)

But prayer does have effect, and I have seen a drunk in the gutter who was ready to change his life, prayer and change his life.
I have seen sick in the ER pray and walk out healed with ER doctors not having a clue how it happened.
So does pray sometimes have effects yes of course, So praying along with all of the other advice is never a wrong answer.

There needs to be a balance. Who determines that balance.

As far as the first advice that was given to prayer for 4 hours and sing praises and all will be fine. Extreme.

Yes prayer is important. Yes prayer does heal mental and physical problems, but I do believe that there needs to be a support system in place.

Counselors, and other programs that are available. Or could be made available. At the same time sometimes people have to hit rock bottom in order to work there way back up, but in order to get back up. They need some one to lift them up.

Example, Therapy, Counseling, and other options if needed.
