First I want to say my step dad that I am not close to but lived with since I was little was addicted to cigerettes and drugs. My brother I'm not real close to him either just got out of jail for drugs. They started going to this church and now they are drug free and dipping to quit smoking. They are being different my step dad has been saying he loves me a lot which he didn't before. MY brother and step dad came over to my house to invite me to church my brother acted like he had power in his hands.
My brother is easily influenced. My step dad has always wanted praise for his music and this church gave him that. Well my grandma and cousin came down to visit and the whole family went to eat dinner. When we were there my 13 yr old daughter and cousin went out side. A bird flew down and landed on my daughter. She walked around to the window to show us. We all thought it was funny. We all went outside when we were done. The bird I guess was young and couldn't fly. They wanted me to take it home I said no. my step dad and brother took it home. I live in house behide theirs. At home we were all outside talking my step dad was building a cage for the bird. Then I don't know what happened but things changed now the kids was not allowed to touch the bird. My brother and s dad would not let them. The cage he now made was covered completing. They were going to let the bird die in cage. MY step dad said the bird was his father and satan and he had to die. They said the end of the world was tonight and said listen to how quite it is. We were all talking about god trying to make them understand what they were doing. I was scared. My s dad got on his knees and prayed to my brother, he thinks he is god and we all need to listen to him. MY sister said his eyes were black. I don't know what is going on I could not stay at my house with nmy kids we all went to my sister my cousin and her boyfriend went to. I was afaid they could kill us they were being so crazy. I could not sleep all night.we are still here no end of the world at this time. My brother finally let the bird go but it did not fly away my mom has took them to the hospital this morning. Also my brother was not on drugs he was given a drug test the same day. Has anyone heard of someone taking religion this far. What should we do. I believe in god and that he loves us.

Some people do take religion to messed up extremes. Maybe you should go to the church and see if this is something the Church is teaching or if your step dad is misconstruing things to a crazy extreme on his own.

If the church seems reasonable maybe talking to the Pastor may help.

I had a friend years ago who was diagnosed as manic depressive and all of her insane rantings were about the devil and Jesus.

When I spoke to her parents about it they told me that her shrink said it is a very common theme.Jesus and angels and demons,etc.

They see an odd event and consider it an omen and believe in the voices in their head and instead of thinking they are insane,they believe they are hearing the voice of God.

I would say with conviction that this is mental illness and not just religious fervor.
