We need to create a new shower 6X6. How do I prepare the floor. What are the steps before the tile is laid? How do you get it so the water drains to the drain?

Would you believe the most superior way to construct a shower is also the most quick and easiest??

A schluter Kerdi shower kit runs about 6-700 for the preformed 6' pan, square grated drain in several metal finishes (no circular drain holes to cut in your tile), wall membrane that gets installed over regular plain old sheetrock, preformed curb, preformed curb water proofing corners, etc, etc. You could have the whole thing up and ready for tile in one day.

The least expensive but most labor intensive method would be to build a mud preslope, install the liner into a clamping ring drain, install lath over the curb and cement board over 15 lb roofing felt or 4-6 mil plastic sheeting, install your setting bed of mud, then install your tile.
