    Basement bedrooms
    In order to put a bedroom in our basement do we need to have special windows?

    The windows are called egress windows and are usually required when habitable space is made in the basement such as bedrooms.

    Check you county/state building code.

    I believe months building codes demand that you have an egress window if you are using the basement as additional living space, and even more if you have a bedroom in there.

    Egress windows are a required safety measure for they will give the people in the basement a way out in case of fire, which is why they are extremely important.

    Do not have anyone sleeping in your basement without giving them an emergency way out.

    Yes they are egress windows unless you have a home on a hill where you have a regular window in the wall
