    Forces to be reckoned with!
    An object has 3 forces acting on it
    One force has magnitude 20N acts in North Westerly direction
    The second force of magnitude 30N acts in a south westerly direction
    The third force of magnitude 25N acts in the easterly direction.
    What is the magnitude of the resultant force acting on the object?


    Two boys are pulling a box across a horizontal floor
    If f1 is 60N and F2 is 100N find the resultant force on the box and the direction of the force.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Break your forces into vertical and horizontal components. With a drawing, you'll see the components easily: (components in red)

    NW force breaks into a vertical component of 20 sin(45) Newtons and a horizontal force of 20 cos(45).
    SW force breaks into a vertical component of 30 sin(45) Newtons and a horizontal force of 30 cos(45).
    E force is already along the horizontal, so no need to break it into components.

    From that, you'll find the resultant force along the horizontal and vertical. With two forces, you can easily find the resultant force.

    The second one seems very easy... unless you forgot to mention something. Without anymore information, I assume that F1 and F2 are acting in the same direction. The resultant will be the sum of the two forces. If you've got a drawing showing where the boys are pulling the box, that direction will be the direction of the resultant force.
