Will the IRS contact you regarding your amended return
I filed a amended return at the beginning of April and I was wondering if the IRS will send out a letter or something to let me know if there was anything wrong with it or if it was processed successfully. I believe it has been 6 weeks now.

    Hello k:

Nahhh. The only time you're going to hear is if something was WRONG. Or, if you applied for a refund, when you get the check is evidence that they received, and processed it.

That doesn't, of course, mean that you won't be audited.

So if I haven't heard anything yet then everything should be good and I should just wait on the check then since I hear that they can direct deposit Amended returns

    Hello again, k:

If you have direct deposit set up with them, then that's how it will happen. They don't automatically do that because you amended your return. If you don't have it set up that way, you'll get a check in the mail.

Of course, I don't know what return you amended, and what the circumstances were. I don't know if you had a professional do it, or you just scratched it out yourself. For example, if you filed a return in March, and amended it in April, things are going to take a while to get straightened out.

Assuming the amendment was straightforward, and you supplied all the documentation necessary, plus an explanation, you'll get your check. If not, there's going to be some questions asked.

Oh OK yea I understand that well I had actually bought a house and heard that we could claim the tax credit this year which would help me out cause I have some things that I need to get done around there that the seller would not fix so that's why I amended it but when I sent in the paper work it didn't tell me on the paper to send in any copies of the documents from closing or anything that's why I was wondering if they would send something in the mail requesting this so that I could get this stuff ready
