    Credit card debt in Texas
I just received a phone call from a private investigator that states to work for a credit card company that my husband defaulted on back in 1999. He stated we needed to make payment arrangements on this debt or we would be served papers to appear in court by the local sheriff. He knew the sheriff's name and seemed to be legitimate. Though I am skeptical that they can sue for a debt from 1999 without paperwork not being filed as of yet. Please give me some insight on Texas law governing unsecured credit card debt and if liens can be filed on homes, vehicles, bank accounts, etc. is there is a statute of limitations on this type of suit and if so, how long is it. Thanks.

SOL in Texas is 4 years:
Statute of Limitations - Open accounts for debt collection
SOL starts on the date that the last payment was made or the last time the card was used.

I'm not 100% familiar with Texas law but I believe I read on another thread on this site that Texas doesn't allow liens to be placed against personal property for unsecured debt, which would be credit card debt. So they can't file a lien, but they can report it to your credit which isn't good for you.
