4 mo old Pom pees & poops in her cage
I have had a 4 mo old Pomeranian for 2 weeks. She's from a shelter who got her 3 days before I adopted her. She was from a breeder (puppy mill?) who'd given her up to the shelter because of a slight heart murmur. I started using a cage for her 3 days ago and she doesn't seem to object to being in there. I take her out every 3-4 hours, however, sometimes she pees and poops in the cage on the soft sweat shirt, or whatever is in there. When that happens I clean the crate and spray it with OdoBan. I put in something clean for her to sleep on.

At night (because I really can't get up to let her out), about 10 pm, I put her in the cage in a small powder room with the cage door open and newspaper on the floor. In the morning there are 1-2 poops on the floor and pee on a wee wee pad. (However, this morning the sweatshirt was also wet.) About 6:30 am I take her out and she usually pees.

Any suggestions? I'd appreciate any ideas!

My dog years ago would keep doing that in the same spot on the floor so my mother told me to spray a little vinager where they go and they won't do it anymore. I tried it and it worked! Just a suggestion!

Possibly being from a puppy mill it is most likely she was kept in a cage her whole life, she doesn't know any better than to go to the toilet in her bed.

It's just a matter of praising her (with toys or treats) when she goes on the grass outside and removing whatever she is weeing/pooping on that she is not allowed, and cleaning it thoroughly so no smell remains (same goes for carpet)

Does she have access to outside during the day?
It is best to train them to grass if you can as dogs can't tell the difference between an absorbent puppy pad and an absorbent sweat shirt :)

A lot of puppies have trouble making it all the way through the night without incident (they only have little bladders remember :) ) So hopefully the night accidents will stop with age or she will at least use the puppy pads all the time with training :)

I know it sort of seems gross at first, but the only way to break our Pomeranian from going number 2 in her cage was to take it out and put it on the pad and leave it there, then clean her cage. My dad's girlfriend's was the same way. Eventually they learn where the poop goes...
