    Roommate from HELL!
    I am a renter in ontario canada I am the only one on the lease. I have a roommate that has done damage to my garage door as in 700.00 worth. He also has shorted me rent for may. Nothing was signed no agreements can I evict him now?

    You can give them written notice and if they don't move evict them though the court.

    You cannot summarily evict someone. An eviction is a legal process that has to go through the steps prescribed by local law.

    Generally the steps are as follows:

    1) Give a 3-10 day Pay or Quit notice or a 30-60 day Termination notice. The time frame will depend on local laws.

    The Pay or Quit notice gives then a time frame to pay what's owed or vacate. If they pay, they stay. The Termination notice means they have to leave within the time frame.

    2) If they do not vacate within the deadline, then you file for an eviction order in your local housing court

    3) A hearing is held and the order granted (unless some reason is shown not to) and the tenant given a few days to vacate.

    4) If they still haven't vacated you hire a sheriff to physically remove them.

    I would call and check with the local authorities in your area... seems there are areas that play by their own rules... you want to make sure you are doing the right things, so you can get him out...
