Gurgiling toilet
I have a two story house. Main level and a basement. All of the water etc in the drains appears to go out to the sewer without a problem, no back-ups.
The toilet in the upstairs bathroom, gurgles when the washer in the basement drains water. The washer drains into a pump which pushes the water up about 3-4 feet to the pipes under the first floor and then out to the street. But... the gurgle is only when the water in emptying from the washer and no other time when water is being used downstairs. I am sure it is because of the amount of water that is being dispressed at one time. There is a full bathroom down there, and that toilet does not gurgle. I bought this house 3 years ago and had some plumbing work done. Because of problems with that work, I had someone else come out and vent everything individually in the basement. The vents are right next to the pipe at the sink, the washer drain hose, behind the toilet in the wall, and I also had a drain installed in case I had another flooding problem. Needless to say the first person messed it up, but it has been working OK for several years. It is a 60 year old house, so, it has got its issues as they all do, but this new one is really bugging me, as I know that it is just not right. I have read all of the questions and answers and I will try some of the suggestions but thought that I would post my exact problem. Additionally I have been using this enzyme cleaner that you leave in the drains overnight for the last couple of nights and it does not seem to be doing anything. Any help that you could give me I would greatly appreciate. I am thinking that it would be best to have a rooter cleanout company with a camera come out and clean it out and take a look at the pipes all the way. But please let me know. I am a single women with a daughter and we are on a real tight budget, so hopefully someone will have an idea that will help |

A "gurgle" tells you that your washers attempting to vent through the toilet.
If your washer ever drained with out causing the toilet to talk to you I would have the washer vent snaked and cleaned out and go from there. The vent's the first thing I would suspect. Good luck, Tom |
