    First car.
Hello everyone, I am starting college in September and I am going to need a car. It would be a 40min drive to college everyday and 40min back. I am only going to be able to save about $3,000. Do you think this is enough for a car that I can count on or no? Also I live in Canada.

It is what it is, as long as you get it properly inspected you should find something

Does your family have a regular mechanic they always use, someone you can trust.

If not a cettified mechanic that has no connections to the sales lot.

Look for a well-maintained, older Honda Civic; e.g. 1992 to 1995. I wouldn't buy one older than that. Preferably, it will have a manual transmission--better gas mileage and more reliable. Have it inspected by a qualified mechanic, before buying it. Afterwards, have all of the fluids changed--engine oil and filter, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and coolant (50/50 mixture antifreeze and distilled water).

I just live with my mom and she doesn't drive. My priest was a certified mechanic (before he became a priest) but I know he's always busy and I don't want to bother him.
