slate tile on concrete porch and steps
We would like to put 12X12 slate tiles on a small, covered concrete porch and two concrete steps. Can we set into thinset, grout and seal, and what is the recommended edge formation for the tile on the steps? We live in the southwest - no freezing temps.
    Thanks!

Not sure what you mean above. Are you referring to the nose of the tread?

When you choose that tile think of rain and slipping.

Thinest is fine but you should clean and etch the old Crete for good adhesion

Thanks, 21 Boat. Yes, I'm referring to the nose of the tread. We didn't know whether to put the edge of the two tiles on the nose and groat or to overlap the top tile, or if there is a finish piece for the nose. As to your slip comment, is slate more slippery than other kinds of tile? It has an uneven surface and if we put a flat sealant on it I thought it would be okay for tread.

Always overlap the riser tile with a tread tile. I like to let the tread tile stick out 3/4 or so past the riser tile depending on how thick and robust that top tile is for a proportioned look.

There should be an orange box below all the answer. You're the second person that's asked me this today. Here is the site page I am on.

I can't click on the Rate My Answer prompt below your posts. The only orange box I get is in my own responses to you...

Not sure why that is. I just checked into it and the answer I got from another long time member was there had to be some "reputation" first by the person posting to rate an answer. Yet my last rating I got was from a poster that had only 8 total post. You have 5 post so I'm not sure why yet.

The reason for the rating is so the person asking the question can evaluate our quality in answerers and the willingness to help all and be fairly prompt to get back. Especially if no one else is responding to carry the tread through.

If you go to the left of the post and click on that persons name it reflects the history of the person giving you an answer and who has merit to that area.

Any way I thank you for trying to take the time to "rate" the response here. This site is running in answers by volunteers only that take three time out to help others.

The answers here are from all over the country and abroad. Its REAL people that share life's expertises to everyone. Anyone can join to help out!

So pass it along and tell others to ask questions here and keep it rolling or join in.

Thanks - I actually did answer a question from someone wanting to know how to submit a script in Hollywood (my area of expertise) so I appreciate the knowledge-sharing!
