I found a house that was vacant and dilapidated. The neighbors say that the previous owners haven't been there for over 12 years and they believe that the owners have no interest in the property. I want to make the house mine. What should my 1st step be to turn this property over in my name, including the taxes? Where do I begin? Can anyone help me out?

Check with your county tax records to find out who owns the home. Contact them and see if they are willing to sell and make an offer.

    Yes you buy the house.

    1. check with the recorder of deeds to see who owns the house and if there is a lien on it.
    2. check the property tax office and see who is paying the property taxes *** and see if they are up to date

The property may sell at auction if the property taxes get too far behind.

But until then you find the owner and buy it.
