I can't get heat to work on my heat pump
I have installed a Goodman self contained single staged heat pump but cannot get the heat to come on. I installed a Honeywell circle manual thermostat. If I put it on Cool with the fan on auto, the a/c and fan work great BUT when I put it on Heat with the fan on auto, I get no heat, just fan.
There are 5 wires.
Red-RH (RC and RH has a jumper on it)
Green-G (it says fan on the heat pump instruction diagram)
White-W (it says heat on the heat pump instruction diagram)
Yellow-Y (it says cool on the heat pump instruction diagram)
Orange-O (it says rev. valve on the heat pump instruction diagram)
The heat pump instructions says "Thermostats must be set to energize "G" during cooling."
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this.

Does your t-stat ever say aux or emergency heat when the heat is on? Did you put electric back up heat in this uint?

OK well then w is probably not used. And where you say the book said to make sure the g is energized during? Are you sure that was not o to be energized in cooling?

OK, well lets see, you say the ac works fine? And the blower comes on in het, just no hot air? How long have you let the blower run?

Some hp will have up to a 10 min time delay depending on were or not the stat also has one.

OK, does the fan on top the unit spin it the heat mode? Not the blower, but the ac fan motor?

No, the fan on the unit is not spinning. The compressor is not on but I do have air coming out of the vents.

Do you have all 5 wires hooked up at the t-stat and the unit? If so we can try the jumper test or if you have a volt meter we can check for power out at the unit.

I do not have a volt meter. I disconnected the white wire in the thermastat a short time ago as you said it probably didn't need to be hooked up since I don't have heat strips installed in the unit.

OK if you touch the red to the yellow the Heat should come on. If you touch the red yello and orange the ac should run.

YOU ARE MY HERO! I put a jumper wire from the white to the yellow (white was disconnected because I have no aux heat) so that when thermostat calls for heat it would activate the yellow. My system now works great both on cool and heat. I can't thank you enough for your help. I was beginning to think it would be necessary to install the heat strips for it to work and not only was I not sure how to do that but I didn't want them in there.
