    Back Ground Check!
14 years ago I was convicted of a Felony with the Federal government on a possession and attempt to distribute charge; I was sentence and released 11 years ago. Since then I have never gotten in trouble again and I have been an outstanding citizen in society, I learned sales in the Fashion business which I made a very nice income, recently I have lost the love for what I do and would like to change careers which made me have the biggest fear of being rejected because of my past mistakes. It was easy for me to build relationships in the Fashion world with no one snooping around my past but being that I have decide to move out of my comfort zone and explore into a city job makes me wonder if I will have a chance to be as successful in another job field. My question is “ Will I be disqualified if I tell the truth about my past and would it come up on the background check?”

Your past will definitely come up on a background check if you decide to get a job with the city or local government.

As noted your conviction will certainly show up on a background check. So you need to be upfront about it and point to how you have paid your debt and have been a model citizen since.

P.S. Please be more careful about reading instructions. You originally posted this in the Introductions forum, which is clearly marked as NOT the place to ask questions.

You may look into having it explunged but it would still show up for national security checks.

But there are many areas in sales if that is what you are looking into, where you may still be independent contractors and the issue of background is not there.

What line of work are you looking into
